1. What is magnesium barium master alloy?
Magnesium barium master alloy is a Mg-based intermediate alloy containing barium. It is used to introduce controlled amounts of Ba into magnesium melts during alloy production or research.
2. Why use a Mg-Ba master alloy instead of elemental barium?
A master alloy provides a more controlled alloying addition and can simplify handling and incorporation of barium into a magnesium melt. The appropriate addition rate depends on the target alloy chemistry and melting process.
3. What Mg-Ba compositions are available?
REG Metals can source different Ba concentrations, including low-, medium-, and high-barium compositions, subject to manufacturing capability. Custom Mg-Ba ratios can also be requested.
4. Are the compositions specified in weight percent?
They can be, but the customer should explicitly specify weight percent (wt%) or atomic percent (at%). For commercial alloy purchasing, wt% is commonly used unless otherwise stated.
5. Can impurity limits be controlled?
Yes. For critical applications, specifications can include limits for elements such as Fe, Si, Cu, Ni, O, and other trace impurities, depending on the supplier's production capability.
6. Can REG Metals provide a Certificate of Analysis?
Yes. COA documentation is available as applicable, including reported chemical composition and other available material information.
