Naval Brass is a copper-zinc-tin alloy developed for improved performance in marine environments. The addition of tin helps improve resistance to corrosion and dezincification compared with conventional brasses, making Naval Brass suitable for components exposed to seawater and other demanding environments.
UNS C46400 is one of the most widely specified Naval Brass grades and typically contains approximately 59–62% copper, 0.50–1.0% tin, with zinc as the principal balance, subject to the applicable specification. Naval Brass plate may be specified to standards such as ASTM B171/B171M depending on the product form and application.
