Niobium-Zirconium is a refractory alloy system combining niobium with controlled additions of zirconium. One commonly used composition is Nb-1Zr, containing approximately 1 wt.% zirconium with niobium as the balance. Compared with commercially pure niobium, Nb-1Zr offers improved strength and elevated-temperature performance while retaining useful fabrication characteristics.
Higher-zirconium Nb-Zr compositions have also been historically important as superconducting materials. Because superconducting behavior and mechanical properties depend strongly on composition and processing history, superconducting Nb-Zr wire should be specified separately from standard Nb-1Zr wire.
