Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG), with the chemical formula Y₃Al₅O₁₂, is a highly stable synthetic garnet material widely used as a host crystal for phosphor and luminescent materials. When doped with rare earth activators such as cerium (Ce³⁺), europium (Eu³⁺), terbium (Tb³⁺), or other rare earth elements, YAG phosphors provide excellent luminescence efficiency, thermal stability, chemical durability, and optical performance.
The most commercially important grade is Cerium-doped YAG (YAG:Ce), which is widely used as a yellow phosphor for white LED lighting, where blue LED light is converted into broad-spectrum visible light.
